Three Skinny Penned Dogs, No Food or Water

All three dogs are now up on petfinder for adoption. Thanks so much to EVERYONE who contributed to getting them out of there, and helped us pay for Harley and their vet care! You are so much appreciated.

Yes, we got the dogs yesterday! We did pay $250 for the golden...which sticks in our craw, but he did sign the papers saying he wouldn't chain or pen anymore dogs. So as long as he sticks to that agreement, it was well worth it. Be sure to watch the video of their rescue and learning to live inside, learning to navigate stairs!

Dogs Deserve Better got a tip about three skinny dogs living in pens in central Pennsylvania. DDB's Tamira Thayne investigated, worked with the caretaker, and got him to give up all three dogs.

None of the dogs had food or water anytime Thayne was there, and there was excuse after excuse for how thirsty, thin, and hungry they were. Mostly the man blamed his ex-girlfriend who left the bad relationship for taking in the animals and leaving them there with him.

But regardless of how that went down, they were HIS responsibility to care for, and in that he failed miserably.

Harley, the golden retriever who was bought from a pet store who buys from puppymills, Roxy, the little back lab with every rib showing, and Savannah the setter mix with a major obsession to hunt down small animals, are happy to be free and starting to get acclimated to the REAL world, where dogs are part of the family.

DDB went to a location in PA today and left food for three skinny dogs we'd heard about. We also heard he may be willing to relinquish them.

No one was home when we went there, so we left a big bag of dog food, and gave the dogs some food and water. We also left a brochure with a note to call us, "We will help you."

The dogs are all at least 10-15 pounds underweight, and they had no food or water when we were there. The golden's pen was full of poop, and the doghouse is not big enough for the dog.

The caretaker called later and told us he had plenty of food for them. He said that he would be willing to relinquish the two smaller dogs, but he'd want money for the golden since he paid money for him.

We don't normally pay for dogs...but let's say this dog was VERY determined to get out of that situation, and in this case we're heavily considering doing it.



We are to call back Monday to arrange getting the dogs. Please pray that this man sticks to his word, for the dog's sake.

We need money to vet all three of them, as well as foster homes. And money to offer him for the golden to get him too if possible.
